GCSE Classical Greek vocabulary lists

OCR’s Defined Vocabulary List is every word students must know for the Classical Greek GCSE language paper. Here is each list in full, with every meaning, checked accent by accent.

Where these lists come from

Both lists are OCR’s, published for teachers on OCR’s GCSE Classical Greek planning and teaching page. We imported each one from OCR’s own spreadsheet:

We show OCR’s words and meanings as published, apart from a handful of corrections to the Greek (listed on each list’s page) and text-encoding repairs. Word types are our addition. GCSE Greek is not affiliated with or endorsed by OCR; the lists are © OCR, and OCR’s page always has the official version.

Which list do my students need?

It depends on the summer they sit the exam.

On GCSE Greek, each class practises the list for its exam year. Words that are on both lists count as the same word, so a class that moves to the newer list keeps its progress on everything that hasn’t changed.
